For me, CPAP is great. I may not need it now (allergies better, had radio procedure to shrink swollen sinuses), but I keep using it. Breathing filtered air helps allergies and sleep is precious.

My spouse may have very mild apnea: occasional loud snoring/snorting when sleeping on her back. Since Benadryl didn't help much, I suspect her palate is a factor. She doesn't want CPAP, but she's open to the dental device. However, I getting a diagnosis will cost thousands for a sleep study. She doesn't have any of the apnea symptoms, so she would prefer a solution that just keeps her from sleeping on her back. Has anyone tried anything that works?

Some people put a ball in their pajama top behind their back. Others are able to create a new habit.  One could also try piling up pillows behind onself to support side sleeping.

Body pillows to the side and a firm bed, maybe?
 I struggled with sleep apnea for several years until I lost some weight, symptoms started disappearing after losing about 10 of the extra 30 pounds I was carrying. I'm sure it's not that easy for everyone, I may have had some youth and resiliency on my side, do hope it never comes back. . . very devastating to a good life and good health, much sympathy to anyone struggling with sleep apnea.
