I used to take Ginsana Ginseng supplements (G115 standardized extract) back when it was made by Pharmaton. Recently, I tried Ginsana again and it did not seem to be working as well as before. I found that Ginsana has been made by the Alan James Group since 2009. I cut open a ginsana capsule and it had a very thin milky substance inside with not much smell. In contrast, the old g115 extract from Pharmaton was dark brown, thick, and had a nice smell to it. I called the Alan James Group and they did not help at all and told me they did not know if the formula was different than the old one by pharmaton. I do not feel the new Ginsana is being made to the same standards as before.

I think Pharmaton still makes the old G115 Ginseng extract in a product called "vitality" as shown at this link...
http://www.pharmaton.com/products/adults_products/capsules.html

I have emailed pharmaton and am awaiting a reply, but it does not appear that the pharmaton vitality product is available in the USA.

In any event, I would be interested in learning of some other quality sources for a standardized extract of true Panax Ginseng  C.A. Meyer.

The closest thing I found is a product by "Natural Factors" but I have not used anything made by them before...

What do you guys think of the natural factors product ?

I have also been told that Ginselect ginseng made by http://www.indena.com/ is good. Swanson vitamins uses this in one of their products, does anyone know if their supplements are any good ?

Does anyone know of any other sources for Indena Ginselect ? Perhaps LEF could make a high quality Ginseng supplement. I know LEF already sell Rhodiola, and Rhodiola and Panax Ginseng two of my favorites.

I would appreciate any feedback and/or other sources.

Thanks,
John

Life Extension used to carry Ginsana, and now has other companies' products.  See http://www.lef.org/search/products.aspx?q=Ginseng

John,

The best way is to buy the actual ginseng root and grid what you need each day in spice grinder. This is really the only way to be 100% sure.  If you need higher, therapeutic doses you can put the root through a high-quality centrifugal juice extractor.  You can also make you're own ginseng tincture, with a very long shelf life.  If interested in tincture making please read my 2009 article I posted in the old LEF forum >> HERE

Thanks Tom,

Can you give me a good reliable source where I can buy high quality pure panax ginseng root ? I would also still like to find a supplier of a  high quality standardized Panax ginseng extract. I have been looking for a company who uses the Indena Ginselect extract in their supplements. I asked swanson if they only used ginselect in their supplement but they have not yet been able to answer my question after a full week.

I emailed Indena and they told me to try Thorne or Soloray, but at their sites, I did not see any panax ginseng. Someone must know of a good standardized panax ginseng extract that works as well as the old G115 pharmaton extract.
