As a PS to this article, subscribers to New Scientist magazine were presented with a detailed article about Norovirus this week (23 March 2013). It can be found on the web on

Within the article there is a box that says:

If you do come down with norovirus, stay at home for three days after your symptoms have subsided, especially if you handle food or work in healthcare. Don't try to please your boss by rushing back to the office as soon as you go a day without vomiting or diarrhoea: you will still be shedding billions of virus particles, and are likely to infect legions of colleagues, friends and commuters. They will not thank you.

The world of conventional medicine is slow to deal with this virus, many claiming it is incurable. Clearly some "thinking outside the box" is needed.

Thank you Tom, D.Dye et al for very informative in-put.

I have been cold/flu-free for years, following the nutritional and supplement guidelines from LEF, as well as my own training as a naturopath. Then (for no obvious reason) I succumbed to a horrible attack of cold/flu/bronchitis, which has lasted 3 weeks in spite of intensive herbal and nutritional therapies.

The clue from the above writings has been 'over-stimulation of my immune system'. I have taken Immune Protect for some years as a general cover against viral infections commonly picked up in air travel. ( I spend several weeks each year travelling from Australia to U.S. Europe and U.K. to  visit my children and grandchildren.) This year I ran out of Immune Protect and used another product with a much stronger dose, 250mg,  of Beta-glucans. Is it possible, I am wondering, that I set up a 'cytokine storm' of infection?

I do agree wholeheartedly that rest - in all senses, and isolation from the public and one's workplace is the most sensible and responsible basis to a successful nature-cure!
