The caution on super ubiquinol states do not use if you have gout or high uric acid. Is this caution specific just for LEF's super ubiquinol or ubiquinol in general. I don't see this caution on other ubiquinol products? Also WHY shouldn't you use it if you have high uric acid?

Welcome to the Forums, Tahoe Girl, and what a beautiful avatar photo!

According to Life Extension's product development department:

The original caution was derived from literature, which stated that crude, unpurified shilajit should not be used by individuals with high uric acid levels (high uric acid levels are also associated with gout and kidney stones).  The shilajit material being used in our product is aspecial purified form of shilajit known as PrimaVie®, and a recent human clinical study using this material demonstrated that the use of PrimaVie® by healthy volunteers was not associated with increased levels of uric acid.

I have been taking 1200 mg of ubequinol a day for Parkinson's and now my big toe has started to hurt.  I am taking Jarrow Formulas ubiquinol which has nothing added to it.  However research indicates that ubequinol is made from yeast and yeast causes gout.  I assume therefore that anyone with a proclivity for gout should not take ubequinol.  However, I have also learned thatnot all CoQ10 is made from yeast.  Some is made from bacteria.  How can I identify a o10 which is not made from yeast?

Life Extension's ubiquinol contains no yeast http://www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/Item01226/Super-Ubiquinol-CoQ10.html

Did your physician diagnose gout?

All ubiquinol is made by Kanaka and according to them "KanekaQH™ is derived from KanekaQ10™, the only all natural yeast-fermented and bio-identical CoQ10 available today."  I heard of a man who spent years trying to discover the source of his gout and it turned out to be the yeast bread he ate.  I thi9nk it is safe to say that ubiquinol is made from yeast, and that would include the ubiquinol in LEF products.

Further to my previous reply, beer is fermented from yeast and it is well known that those who have gout should not drink beer.  Therefore is ubiquinol is fermented from yeast, there is a certain logic in thinking that it might also cause gout.

Kaneka QH® Ubiquinol is a patented reduced form of CoQ10 made via the yeast fermentation process. The final material does not contain yeast, as it is all removed during processing.
