Thanks, alc, for that information; I had no idea that Oxytocin was available to be purchased.  This may be a partial solution for depression and autism in some individuals.

Forget all the neurotransmitter bs.  While there is possibility these are related, you will be chasing your tail trying to run this down.  There are no protocols for this that are acceptable to experienced physicians.

I made a comment about Ocytocin a while back.  This is a real medication that only should be administered by a physician.  It can be obtained by subcutaneous injection or compounded in sub-lingual troches.  Yes it helps with Autism, possibly schizophrenia and certainly sexual response,  Oxytocin is used to induce labor in higher doses than you would use for this indication.  It works in part by increasing the force of muscle contractions.  Taking too much can be dangerous.  It is also very good for social anxiety.  It won't help if your levels are normal.

A much better first line therapy is to optimize your sex hormones (estradiol, projesterone and testosterone).  Transdermal estradiol, micronized oral progesterone and intramuscular testosterone cypionate work best.  DHEA may be slightly helpful.  Many here like it because it can be obtained without an RX.

Testosterone cypionate is not a first line med for females unless there is persistent sexual dysfunction.  In that case:

Testosterone cypionate - 25-50 mg per month (or 3 weeks)
Some women start at 20 mg per week and then back down after 2-3 months when sexual function is restored or side effects occur (acne primarily).

optimal total testosterone - 350 pg/mL

Progesterone and Estradiol dosing is beyond the scope of this post.  I will post optimal blood levels (plus FSH and SHBG) and I'm assuming you are post menopausal.

Post menopausal
optimal estradiol - 80-150 pg/mL
optimal progesterone - 1.5-8 pg/mL
FSH 20-50 IU/L
SHBG - 6.1 mg/L

Get your hormones regulated properly and you will be very happy with the results.
