To Oscar,

Life Extension tests all of its own products for content and purity.  Third party products, such as http://www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/Item17137/BHT-Butylated-Hydroxytoluene.html sold by Life Extension are not tested by Life Extension.

D Dye

Thank you for your honest, straightforward reply. I do believe LEF does the best it can in providing reliable products. I am concerned that VRP may have for some reason unknown to me no longer be living up to the standards they once did. A change in management or who knows what. I really do not know. There are members of the BHT cures group reporting adverse reactions to the VRP brand of BHT and I myself have noticed adverse symptoms from the last batch I bought that I never had before.
There is a test that can be done to identify at the very least elements that should NOT exist in BHT. BHT should contain only Carbon, Hydrogen, and a small amount of Oxygen. If any sulfur, aluminum, or chlorine exists in the BHT it is contaminated. Any element other than hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen does NOT belong there and would indicate contamination. Because concentrated sulfuric acid or aluminum chloride are the two catalysts used in making BHT, any presence of those elements no matter how small would indicate the BHT was not scrubbed properly and be a strong indication of sloppy synthesis.   ...Oscar

Post Script: I myself would be very willing to pay a good bit more for LEF made BHT. Myself and the other group members are looking for a product we can trust. Perhaps this is something LEF may wish to consider.

Life Extension once carried its own BHT product, which was discontinued.

I almost bought some "Liv 52" I think it was called. A liver  restorer, cleanser, or something. Lot of hype to it, supposed to be the best. THEN, I checked what was in the stuff, and found almost 40 different  plants, ingredients, and who knows what else. Now, in my small mind, I don't see how in the he...ck they can just throw a bunch of stuff together, and say it is good for you. What about testing it long term? what about different people? Just scared me enough to convince me not to buy it. OR anything really. I don't trust anything that hasn't been tested. Well, that isn't entirely true, I'm sure lots of the  supplements are good for you. But, who knows how some kind of plant is going to affect you, differently, than it has affected many other people. And, if something does....how the heck can you find out which of the countless plants was the problem? I know that I have tried MMS, BHT, and some other supplements, and none of them has made a difference in my Hepatitis C problem.
Speaking of Hep C, I have some information that may help someone. I had a pretty bad case of the "Shakes" or "Tremors" my teeth would chatter, when held close together, much faster than I can make them chatter deliberately. It was getting really bad, I was getting worried, so I went to a doctor that specialized in Hep C treatment. His first round of blood tests showed that I had a very high level of "Ammonia" in my blood. The problem is called ...you'll have to google for a correct spelling...it is "Hepatic Encephalopathy" This can get bad enough to kill you. It makes your brain not work correctly, messing with your decision making, the way you talk to people, and, messes with your concentration. I am a woodworker by  trade, and read measuring tapes a lot. I have always been a whiz at it. HOWEVER, after finding out about my Hep Enc... and after recovering from it somewhat, I can  now look back and see how it has affected my life for a long time. I remember, in the last 6 or 8 months, telling my employees several times: "Man, I don't know what's wrong with me. I don't usually make those mistakes" I could go on  and on, but, I just hope if someone else has the "Shakes", you get your blood ammonia checked out. The doctor gave me a bottle of some kind of laxative, called "Lacatose" I believe, and it has made a tremendous difference in my life. My shakes have diminished greatly, and I think much clearer now. My Homeopathic doctor was just guessing about my shakes, and not doing me any good at all. Sometimes, M.D.'s are the preferred choice of healing. Hope this information helps someone!!

DDye,

The Foundation's chosen testing lab.. Who are they? and what is their quality control and reputation?

Life Extension contracts with laboratories that have been qualified by the Life Extension Quality Unit.  See  http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2013/sep2013_Dietary-Supplement-Safety-Control-Compared-to-FDA-regulated-Drug-Factories_01.htm

There are dangers out there.

I use LE supplements mostly, I feel they are very careful about the quality.

I do go to other companies I feel secure about now and then.

I would rather pay twice the price to have the vitamins tested and make sure they are in fact as their label claims

DDye,
Good to know. I think it's time to publish an article in the magazine about the Foundation's unique quality control.

A year later and nothing has changed.

Recent news reported in the New York Times

I read that article in the New York Slimes.  It's just allopathic propaganda.   Buy supplements from quality manufacturers and always check www.consumerlab.com.
