I'm not clear what promotes cancer, IGF-1 or lowered IGF-1.

      Thanks.

Welcome, Arthur.

IGF-1 promotes cancer.

Thanks. Can you give me a link to some references on this so I can show them to my doctor? He was just raving about how great it was that my latest blood test IGF-1 score was 205.

It's common knowledge that IGF-1 promotes cancer but because it is higher in youth, it is linked with youthfulness and health.  Other hormones may have similar effects.  For example, estradiol promotes estrogen receptor-positive breast cancers, yet is higher in youth when the incidence of breast cancer is much lower.  If you don't have a pre-existing cancer, there's no problem with having a youthful IGF-1 level.  Some benefits are listed here http://www.lef.org/magazine/mag2003/nov2003_report_blood_07.html OTOH higher levels of IGF-1 have been linked with aging in laboratory experiments.

IGF-1, PQQ, etc. seem to be in the catch 22 category.  If they promote growth, will they promote cancer?  We must have the growth factors to extend life so we need to attack cancer from a different angle.

Stimulate the immune system to take care of the cancer.  According to Dr. Lawrence Broxmeyer of the NY Institute of Medical Research, mycobacteria plays a very big role in cancer and several other diseases.  Iron feeds mycobacteria.  According to the CDC, TB increases exponentially with an increase in iron. Why? because the TB mycobacteria is using the iron.  After all, what causes low iron?  Two big ones are bleeding and cancer.  The cancer is using iron or rather the mycoplasma (mycobacteria) is.

We must keep the immunity up and a very big factor in this is keeping iron levels down as we age.  I don't see this stressed enough.  LEF did have a good article on iron in the last issue.  Thanks Dayna, keep it up.

Perhaps the best approach to take when using PQQ and astragalus would be a cancer-preventative stack such as:

www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/Item00342/PectaSol-C-Modified-Citrus-Pectin.html
www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/Item00407/Super-Bio-Curcumin.html
www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/Item00330/Melatonin.html
www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/Item00953/Mega-Green-Tea-Extract-lightly-caffeinated.html

And of course, metformin 850mg X 3 per day with meals.

Apart from the modified citrus pectin I think the above should be taken as a metter of course by anyone who is serious about improving their general health / life extension.
