As you have observed, contrary to what the reviewer has written, Life Extension's Ultra Natural Prostate Formula does contain beta-sitosterol.  See http://www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/Item01695/Ultra-Natural-Prostate-with-ApresFlex-and-Standardized-Lignans.html Even if it didn't have added beta-sitosterol, saw palmetto and pygeum contain this compound.

Most life extensionists are getting selenium from other sources.

I have been taking various prostate formulas for several years but still had some problems.  I recently saw an article on UTI's and the prostate so I gave cranberry extract, D-manose and quercitin a try and it worked fantastically.  If saw palmetto is not working for you give it a try.

There is very good evidence linking mycobacteria to cancer so maybe the first place to start in protecting the prostate is with antibacterials and immune boosters.

The recent hype on Cialis is that it helps with BPH. Are there any thoughts on this?

I've been reading alot lately about saw palmetto being implicated in erectile dysfunction. Is there any credibility to this claim? Does LEF have an opinion on this?

The only study on medline that mentions any connection is http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9820264 and this states there was a lower rate of ED reported with saw palmetto in comparison with finasteride.  No abstracts were retrieved for a search of erectile dysfunction and beta-sitosterol (the active component of saw palmetto).  However, a number of abstracts documented reported ED in association of 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, of which saw palmetto is one.

Thanks for the info. A little disconcerting, but the side effect was only 1% with the Saw Palmetto vs 5% with the drug.

Although many reported side effects are indeed due to the drug being tested, keep in mind that study participants are asked to report anything they experience.  So if they happen to feel tired, they report fatigue, if they fell, they report falling, if they weren't in the mood, they might report low libido.  These effects may or may not be caused by the treatment.

I have been taking 2 capules of Ultra Nat Prostate a day for a couple on months.

No effect, I started yesterday taking 6 capules, 2 in the morning, 2 in afternoon, & 2 before bed.

Is there any know side effects of this dosage?  How long before showing improvement?

I have had a swollen prostate for years.  I have to go to pee 4 times a night after bedtime.

I have tried D-Mannose twice a day, not effect.

Urologist  just want to give Rapaflo or similar meds which do not help the problem.

For one, too much boron on a regular basis can accumulate in the body.  Durk Pearson recommended not going above 6 milligrams per day.  The Supplement Facts http://www.lef.org/Vitamins-Supplements/Item01695/Ultra-Natural-Prostate-with-ApresFlex-and-Standardized-Lignans.html for the product carries the warning:  Do not exceed recommended dose.  You may need pharmaceutical therapy or surgery to correct the problem.
