Hi All,

Recently had some blood tests done by a naturopath as I've not been feeling well (tired, sore). I am a 40 YO male in good shape (could lose 10 lbs, can't we all!).

My testosterone came back within range at 377 total ng/dL and bioavalable at 235 ng/Dl.

Ref range listed by labcorp for 40-49 yo's is 95-350 which seems low to me. Whenever I look online I find that the avg male in my age group is more like 550-600 in total testosterone.

Just curious if this is considered low? And can it be elevated naturally?

Thanks for any feedback!

Drew

There are standard lab values and then there are optimal values. Life Extension's Male Hormone Restoration information http://www.lef.org/protocols/male_reproductive/male_hormone_restoration_01.htm suggests much higher optimal levels.

There are natural ways to elevate testosterone, such as those that inhibit 5-alpha reductase, thereby reducing the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotesterone, or aromatase inhibitors. Did you have your DHT or estradiol tested as well?

Hi DDye,

Thanks for you reply, sorry for my delayed response. :-). I am having my estradiol checked. For DHT, that is the Dihydrotestosterone I take it? My value was tested and is at 32 ng/dL (labcorp ref range 30-85).

My SHBG is 19.0 nmol/L, not sure what the range is for that, but Lapcopr says its in the normal range. I just think my values are on the low side for a 40yo...though a Dr. hasn't told me that.

Will return my estradiol when the test comes back and of course will review the Male Hormone restoration guide LEF has...
