to Tom:
Life Extension's Product Development department thanks you for your suggestion and replied with the following:
This product is not manufactured in blister packaging as it loses no efficacy in the bottle. Blister packaging would greatly increase the price.
While exposure to oxygen, high temperature or light can result in oxidative degradation of omega-3 fatty acids, the fish oil used in this product is processed under mild conditions to ensure the lowest possible oxidation content. The distillation process only involves heat for a few seconds. We ensure that any oxidation is minimized by performing tests to assess oxidation levels, including those for the value of peroxide, anisidine, totox, acid, absorbance, and oligomers. The results of each are required to be well below those set in international regulatory standards in order to obtain the approval of the International Fish Oil Standards (IFOS) organization (http://www.ifosprogram.com/IFOS/ConsumerReport.aspx). Also, our Super Omega 3 is tested by ConsumerLabs. Please see the results of claim, purity and freshness of our product in this link: https://www.consumerlab.com/reviews/fish_oil_supplements_review/omega3/. Furthermore, our Super Omega 3 fish oil is loaded with antioxidants to protect against rancidity. The olive polyphenols, mixed tocopherols and rosemary extract all function as protective antioxidants.

Thank you for the reply. I'm not a member of Consumer Labs so I can't see the results. I see that Pure+™ fish oil is the branded fish oil used in the super omega-3 product. When you say:
"We ensure that any oxidation isminimized by performing tests to assess oxidation levels, including those for the value of peroxide, anisidine, totox, acid, absorbance, and oligomers."
Are these separate tests LEF performs after they receive the raw, fish oil ingredient?
Additionally, how many days after bottling was the LEF fish oil product that Consumer Labs tested?

From Product Development: Life Extension's Super Omega products are tested for potency (EPA/DHA)and heavy metal contamination prior to release of every batch. This informationis listed on each product Certificates of Analysis. In addition, batches ofthis item are periodically analyzed by IFOS and results are listed on theirwebsite. Every batch sent to them for analysis is fully tested and passes theIFOS 5 star rating requirements. This rigorous analysis includes meetingCRN/GOED standards for PCB, dioxins, furans, peroxide, anisidine, oxidation, etc. Unfortunately, this testing is time consuming and costly so we do not testevery batch and we usually do not have results posted on lots currently beingdistributed. Our procedure is to send out multiple samples for analysis two tothree times a year. These analyses take approximately one month to complete and in that time the lots being tested will be distributed and no longer ininventory when the results are completed. To review past results of this product by IFOS visit http://www.ifosprogram.com/IFOS/ConsumerReport.aspx. As far as Consumer Labs testing goes, Consumer Labs does not receive samples from Life Extension. They randomly purchase product from various distributers and test these samples. It would be hard to determine exactly how old the products they test are. More than likely they always try to be within the first 12 months of the products' shelf-life (when a product has a 2 yr shelf-life).

How about testing for radiation? Our oceans are polluted and independent testing has proven that even around the US, there is high radiation pockets. I am concerned with anything coming from the ocean after Fukashima.

No testing for radiation is conducted on the Super Omega-3 product. The fish is from Peru and the oil ismanufactured in Norway.

hi Dave,
The answer to that question depends upon how much calcium your diet supplies. Do you consume a lot of leafy green vegetables and/or dairy products?

Always interested to see peoples protocols. Sometimes, I think my own list gets a bit carried away. I was interested to see how basic/simple Dr. Weil's Personal Vitamin Routine was.
- A multivitamin/multimineral - one tablet
- Antioxidant - one capsule (this is an overpriced C/E/A mix)
- CoEnzyme Q10 - one 60mg pill.
- Host Defense, a mixed-mushrooom supplement for immune support - one capsule
- Magnesium chelate - one 250mg pill
- Fish Oil - three 500mg capsules
- Weil Juvenon - one tablet (this is basically a typical ALCAR / ALA stack in a pill - also overpriced) I prefer Na-RALA
In the evening, with dinner, he takes:Pretty basic.... any thoughts? I sometimes wonder if I am stressing my liver with the amount of basic health + weight training supplements I take on a daily basis.
That which does not kill us makes us stronger.

Welcome Alpine! Cool image . . .
Would need to know what is in Dr Weil's multinutrient supplement to be able to comment on his program. Some multis just cover the basics, others, like Life Extension Mix are much more comprehensive.
