Hi

i'm trying to balance my thyroid (hypothyroid) and get a more accurate control of where my testosterone production stands.

This all began with high Estradiol on my labs from my BHRT doc.  I began taking aromatase inhibitor experimentation, as he cut my dosage back on Test. Basically I began looking for a protocol combination natural supplements that would bring the Estradiol down. I tried a few, Saw palmetto/pumpkin oil etc... nothing worked ..Estradiol kept rising

then he tested me for Thyroid issues and found I have hypothyroid.

I researched since I left the clinic, and settled on Kelp capsules for iodine, with SeMSC form of Selenium 200 mcg, zinc 30mg, Fish Oil, no soy based supplements or products.

I'm taking Also Dim w/my DHEA

for prostate (inhibitors): Quercetin (anhydrous, w/bioperine) 800mg, see zinc above, non-soy Genistein, and I've ordered a complex supplement of Saw Palm. stdzd w/Pygeum and Stinging Nettle stdzd, i wanted to cover 5 Alpha Reductase inhibitor. doc had me on progesterone immediately Before the test each morning and nite, but i don't want to pay for one prescription so i can qualify for another, waste of $$. right?

ok this was about a book, my apologies. I need a reference, something non-medical schoolish more layperson as i don't need the calculations and formulas. only descriptions of 5AR inhibitors, aromatase inhibitors, and their pathway/mechanism of action on receptors, and of course test, DHT, Estradiol/Estrogen etc.... diagrams would be nice.

i'm not totally foreign to this as i too microbiology, yrs ago and this covered DNA/gene splicing etc... also had A&P both, so i'm familiar with receptors, different pathways of action, etc...

open to all tips and advice. But need leads on good books. i want to clean up my hormonal imbalance and get back on BHRT and take my test, not getting sidetracked by side issues with thyroid and too much estradiol.

will get labs soon to see where i am.

thanks!

Brad

The best overall book that I have read is The Life Extension Revolution by Phillip Lee Miller, M.D. and the Life Extension Foundation. It was written for the layman in 2005. You may have to get a used copy on Amazon. Basically it is the Life extension site in a nutshell with loads of still up-to-date information in all areas.

Good luck on finding supplements to raise or lower your hormones. I have tried them all with minimal results for my genetic makeup. I use topical T-gel to raise testosterone, aromatase to lower estrogen, and my DHT is on the high side, because extracts don't work for me. I refuse to take Finasteride, because of the terrible sides. I use less T-gel than I would prefer, so my testosterone is on the lower end of healthy levels to help keep my DHT down. Additionally, I take DHEA and pregnenolone capsules and use a small amount of progesterone gel

Don't get me wrong, I use supplements for many other situations and they do work. Unfortunately, in my case, I haven't had success with any supplements to raise or lower hormones to meaningful levels.

Beefster, have you taken a look at our malehormone restoration protocol? It contains suggestions for supporting hormonelevels: http://bit.ly/12UH6MD
