My thoughts: If entropy is some LAW of Physics, How is that stars and galaxies and life itself evolved out of the TOTAL disorder that occurred as a result of the BIG BANG. Also, certain plants seem to have the capacity for immortality. The bristle cone pine for example.
To me. the fact that life evolved is proof enough that this entropy LAW of physics does NOT provide proof of anything.
Why this is important to people who want to live a very long time: It does seem that as people age their very cells LOSE the ability to maintain youthfulness. Simply stated: every bodily system deteriorates as we age. But this is NOT true of some plants and possibly some animals. I am thinking of amoebas. So how is it a plant such as the bristle cone pine can live for many thousands of years ? Unless their environment deteriorates they seem to live forever. The same is true of the giant redwoods. They grow so tall they eventually fall over but do NOT die. All along the fallen tree new trees sprout and grow. But they are in fact in every way still a living extension of that fallen tree. The so called new trees have the same genes and all that. The same is true for grape vines and many other plants. Why is it their DNA does NOT deteriorate the way people`s DNA apparently does ? Just my thoughts on ENTROPY.   ...Oscar

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction; in this case: extropy.

Oscar2u:  Conventional theory says that the universe is running down--entropy is increasing, and so eventually the universe will be cold and lifeless.  In contrast, the Reciprocal System says that the universe is cyclic, and so entropy overall does not change--the increases are balanced by the decreases.  Life is physical, but not purely material; in some respects, it is inverse to material--and so entropy is reduced in the creation and development of life forms; it increases in old age, of course.

Here is an explanation of what " EXTROPIANISM " is and it does fit in with some of the more optimistic takes on THE TECHNOLOGICAL SINGULARITY:

No one knows where this exponential increase in knowledge and technology is taking us. Robot gods that have unlimited abilities for good or evil. Time WILL tell and it may be coming a LOT sooner than many think.   ...Oscar

I understand that eventually the universe ends as the big freeze or more likely the big rip because the universe is expanding at an excelerating rate due to dark energy. Once the speed of light is approached everything is torn apart. But all such events are many billions of years in the future. I would be very happy to live a mere few thousands of years such as the bristle cone pine tree does.   ...Oscar

Hello xnlife, Oh we try and have a little fun here now and then. But I do believe this entropy issue is an important one when it comes to LIFE EXTENSION.
Everything about life itself seems to me to DEFY this LAW of entropy. All evolutionary processes seem to me to defy this LAW of ENTROPY. The entropy people`s fall back position seems a weak one to me. They can see how evolution creates order out or disorder, BUT insist that entropy ultimately wins out after a very many billions of years. I say: SO WHAT ? During these very many billions of years it seems to me matter and energy in fact has an obvious tendancey to organize itself into complex systems. Life being far and away the most complex said system. Simply stated: An environment that has liquid water will evolve life given enough time. For water to exist as a liquid obviously requires an energy source. A star such as our sun does very nicely.
And I think it is important to find out why certain plants can live so very long. Trees such as those giant redwoods seem to have the potential to live forever. Why NO DNA deterioration after 10s of thousands of years ?
Anyway, welcome to the group and I do notice you are a stand up person.   ...Oscar

This is kind of fun to consider:

Maybe time does not flow as our brains perceive, rather we are merely experiencing ongoing particle entanglement,  and entropy in the universe is actually at a steady state.

Do humans cause more or less entropy?

If we cause less entropy but the universe tends toward more entropy and cannot be changed then makind will not expand and flourish.

It would be against natural laws tending toward more entropy, unless nature finds a way to make up more entopy elsewhere to compensate for the humans.

Two cents isn't worth much these days. Cool

Money won't help when 6 ft under but when will you be there? That's the problem.
