YES, this does include VEGETARIANS, ESPECIALLY raw food vegetarians. How can that be so ? It is so because manure is the most commonly used fertilizer. And the intestines of ALL mammals have E. Coli in them. This is a NEW strain of the E. Coli bacteria. It was first recognized in 1975. This NEW and extremely dangerous strain is even now showing up in lakes and ponds.
Well, how come I never heard about it before ? Because the US GOVERNMENT does NOT want you to know about it. The mission of the USDA [ US Dept. of Agriculture ] is to PROMOTE US food products and also protect, and inspect said foods. And the FDA also. I am not all sure what their mission is anymore.  They seem very confused  about it themselves.
People have tried to bring this extremely important issue to public awareness. There was " Kevin`s Law " which has gone NOWHERE since it was first proposed in 2005. You can read about Kevin`s Law here:

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin%27s_Law

Facts and relevant information about these NEWLY evolved extremely dangerous Bacteria here:

   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O157:H7#Transmission%C2%A0

Many doctors don`t even know about this CRISIS that is NOW upon us. This may very well be the first of the 21st centurie`s pandemics.
Interesting side note: About 10 times as many people died of the so called SPANISH flue as died in all of WWI actions. WWI deaths about 10 million. Spanish flue deaths about 100 million.

Why do you like scaring people Oscar ? I do NOT like scaring people. I do what I can to help people avoid and deal with infectious diseases.   ...Oscar

POST SCRIPT: Here is a link to the CDC [ CENTER for DISEASE CONTROL ] about all this. There are many links provided there to learn about what you can do to avoid becoming infected :

     http://www.cdc.gov/ecoli/general/

That above link is really a good one. The CDC is trying hard to deal with this issue. It seems at least one government organization IS doing it`s job.

A veterinarian`s [ animal doctor`s ] take on the BIG PICTURE about all this:

The first report in the new section was on the West Coast O157:H7 hamburger outbreak (8), where Jack-in-the-Box is referred to anonymously as “chain A.” In practice, emerging foodborne diseases were an issue from the beginning.

It is easy to forget that finding the human pathogen O157:H7 as a non-pathogenic commensal in cattle was a shock. It was even more surprising to find O157:H7 in or on plants, starting with the apple cider and apple juice cases that were occurring around the same time as the Jack-in-the-Box outbreak (9).

The interaction between human pathogens and plants has continued to be even more surprising, up until today. A brief survey of the research projects and publications of only three labs can illustrate this: Fred Ausubel’s lab at Harvard/Massachusetts General Hospital (10); Maria Brandl’s lab at USDA Albany, CA (11); and Ariena H.C. van Bruggen’s lab at the University of Florida’s Emerging Pathogens Institute (12). There are many others.

More here from Daniel Cohen published 12-5-2013:

  http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2013/12/the-new-country-doctor-and-the-clinical-diagnosis-of-the-farm/#.UqKdpSdWGt8

This problem is not going away. But Mr. Cohen and others are looking at this problem from a strategic perspective and trying to anticipate and come up with a strategy for coping with this problem. This is a very important issue.   ...Oscar
